Taking Root
April 24, 2000 WPTZ NEWS CHANNEL 5

Missisquoi River Basin Association volunteers planting trees along a streambank.
|
Several watershed groups within the Lake Champlain Basin are planting trees and cleaning up rivers this spring and summer. Tree planting is a vital part of restoring stream banks because the roots hold in the soil and prevent erosion. River clean-ups help prevent pollution, such as toxic substances and phosphorus, from entering waterways.
