About Us
The mission of the Au Sable River Association (ARA), a non-profit membership-based organization, is to protect and enhance the natural and cultural resources of the Au Sable River watershed. The ARA was established in 1999. The ARA has one staff person and is guided by a board of directors with representatives from all seven towns in the watershed and a variety of interest areas.

Activities
ARA volunteers and members are active in many projects throughout the Au Sable watershed, including:
- restoring eroded river banks
- conducting a geo-morphological study of the river
- helping a landowner fence horses out of Gay Brook (a tributary of the Au Sable) and providing an alternative water source
- assisting village and town highway departments with erosion control and pollution prevention
- assisting with the purchase by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)of sixteen homes in the floodplain
- conducting a corridor management plan for Route 73
- hosting educational events and workshops

How to Get Involved
Volunteers are always welcome and needed. Volunteers can participate in activities such as: river clean-ups, macroinvertebrate sampling and surveying river reaches. The ARA has a membership program and members receive a quarterly newsletter and the opportunity to vote at their annual meeting. Other types of donations and services are also accepted.

The Lake Champlain Basin Program hosts and designs watershed, lake and river group webpages to assist these local group with outreach efforts. The hosting and design of this page does not signify that the contents necessarily reflect the views of the States of New York and Vermont, the Province of Quebec, the Lake Champlain Basin Program, or the US Environmental Protection Agency.
