Lake Colby Association

About Us

Lake Colby is a 285-acre spring-fed lake on Route 86 immediately north of the village of Saranac Lake. The lake's only outlet (non-navigable) feeds Lower Saranac Lake. The Lake Colby Association (LCA) represents Lake Colby shore owners and nearby commercial and governmental interests in preserving the quality of the lake. Our mission is:

  • To monitor water quality and take action if pollution or infestation threatens water quality or the life of the Lake;
  • To perform septic testing for residents and to provide educational materials to homeowners on ways to reduce pollution;
  • To support restrictions on resident watercraft, including;
  • Extending the State 10HP boat launch limit to all non-governmental craft. All shore-owners with road access have signed a petition to make 10HP the legal restriction on all motorized craft on the lake;
  • To support rules and regulations to bar JetSki use;
  • To combat the invasion of Eurasian Milfoil and to work with the State and other groups in eradicating it;
  • To monitor the Lake's water level and to alert and work with Town, County and State officials in the event the outlets are contaminated with debris or beaver dams;
  • To monitor the public beach and to insure that any change in use is consistent with the Lake's current residential status and with the hospital's needs;
  • To join with other associations (for example the Federation of Lakeshore Associations) to increase our knowledge and effectiveness in dealing with water quality and other quality of life issues affecting lake dwellers;
  • To act collectively in Village, Town, County, and State issues that affect us;
  • To form sub-groups to act on behalf of affected land owners, including the creation of a Moir Road maintenance escrow to maintain a reasonable quality road surface year in and year out;

Membership

The Association is open to any homeowners and their families, businesses, or governmental agencies who own property adjoining or facing Lake Colby. The annual meeting is each year at a time to be established by the members, but nominally in August. Officers are elected at the annual meeting. Special meetings can be called by the President or Secretary at any time.

Volunteers help with the CSLAP monitoring program, water testing programs, milfoil harvesting program and by serving on LCA's elected board.
