3. Eco-Info Project
A the exhibit unveiling!:Click to view. Installed at three city parks, "Get the Scoop on Poop" is a friendly message to all dog owners to clean up after their pets to decrease the run-off from dog droppings into Lake Champlain.

Through the use of a fun cartoon, the message conveys how E.coli, a bacteria found in dog poop, can make us sick when we swim in contaminated water.

4. Pine Street Barge Canal
Click to View Pine Street Barge Canal This exhibit interprets the history and cleanup efforts of the Pine Street Barge Canal. In the early 1900s a manufactured gas plant existed on the site and converted oil and coal into gas for streetlights and heating. Toxic wastes from this process were disposed of in the wetlands around the canal, contaminating the area.

In 1983, the canal was designated a Superfund site by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. After many years of study and extensive public input, a cleanup plan was devised and the site was restored as a wetland in 2003. The exhibit is located on the Burlington Bike Path just north of the canal.

Exhibit Sponsors: U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum, and several other partners. For more information, contact the Maritime Museum at 802.475.2022.
