Video: State of the Lake Virtual Release and Press Conference

The LCBP hosted this virtual release and press conference for the 2021 Lake Champlain State of the Lake and Ecosystem Indicators Report on June 23, 2021. Opening remarks were provided by:

  • U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy (video recorded remarks)
  • Deborah Szaro, EPA Region 1 (New England) Acting Administrator
  • Walter Mugdan, EPA Region 2 (New York) Acting Administrator
  • Marie-Claude Francoeur, Québec Delegate to New England
  • Julie Moore, Secretary of the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources
  • Joeseph Zalewski, Director of Region 5 of the New York Department of Environmental Conservation
  • Nathalie Provost, Director of Analysis and Science for Central and Southern Quebec for the Quebec Ministry of Environment and the Fight Against Climate Change

LCBP staff then provided insights into the State of Lake Champlain, oriented around the four goals of the Lake Champlain management plan Opportunities for Action: Clean Water, Healthy Ecosystems, Thriving Communities, and an Informed and Involved Public. A question-and-answer session will follow.

NOTE: In most parts of Lake Champlain water quality remains good, however the Lake does not meet water quality standards and remains impaired for drinkable, fishable, and swimmable waters.
