SUMMARY:Becoming an Environmental Leader in your Town WEBINAR
DESCRIPTION:n order to make real change in your town it is not enough to just understand the science behind land use planning. Real and substantial change occurs when community members rise as leaders and set visionary goals in order to adapt for a changing future. Leaders are people who guide communities to complete tasks that no one individual could have achieved alone. Join the Community Wildlife Program and (partner) to explore what it means to be an environmental leader in your town. We will dive into a variety of leadership styles\, phases of group development\, and ways to effectively collaborate with diverse groups of stakeholders. In the words of the Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu\, “When the best leader’s work is done the people say\, We did it ourselves.” Presenters: Jens Hilke\, Conservation Planner\, VT Fish and Wildlife Department

SUMMARY:Nesting Beach Clean Up Day
DESCRIPTION:An event aimed at making Lake Champlain’s beaches more welcoming to spiny softshell turtles is coming up\, and Vermont Fish and Wildlife wants your help with it. \nNesting Beach Clean Up Day is Sat.\, Oct. 14. Volunteers will pull weeds and debris off sites where the turtles lay their eggs. \nFish and Wildlife biologists say these kinds of efforts\, along with a push to keep people from disturbing the beaches during nesting season\, are making a difference for the threatened species. \nIf you want to help\, you’re asked to meet at North Hero State Park on Saturday at 10 a.m. After finishing there\, the group will carpool to another site in Swanton. \nThe event is rain or shine\, and you should plan to dress for the weather and bring water and snacks. Some hand tools will be provided\, but participants are encouraged to bring their own garden tools like rakes. Kids are welcome! Pre-registration is not required. \nFor more information\, contact Toni Mikula at Toni.Mikula@vermont.gov. \nRead more →
