SUMMARY:Winter Wednesday Speaker Series: “No Other Lake” Short Film – Sneak Preview and Q&A with Jordan Rowell & Duane Peterson
DESCRIPTION:In August 2021\, UVM student Jordan Rowell began a two-week journey to kayak the entire 120-mile length of Lake Champlain. With local filmmaker Duane Peterson documenting the adventure\, the pair conducted interviews to better understand the biggest challenges facing our basin and to explore our relationship with natural resources in the face of a changing climate. The two will present the making of the film\, “No Other Lake\,” share a sneak preview\, and engage in a Q&A discussion about their film and what they learned in their endeavor. \nJordan Rowell is a UVM student majoring in Natural Resources and Duane Peterson is a local filmmaker and programming director for SunCommon’s Climate Action Film Festival \nThe Winter Wednesdays series is a partnership project of the Worthen Library and South Hero Land Trust. Funding made possible by members and donors of each organization. All events are free. All are welcome. SUMMARY:Winter Wednesdays Speaker Series: The Clean Water Act at 50 with Susan Evans McClure
DESCRIPTION:2022 marks the 50th anniversary of the Clean Water Act\, the nation’s first comprehensive legislation protecting water quality. Life in the Champlain Valley has always been and continues to be deeply connected to the water of Lake Champlain. This monumental legislation expanded federal protection of the waters of the United States\, paving the way for policies\, protections and funding dedicated towards clean water. Subsequent amendments to the Act strengthened protections for Lake Champlain\, creating the Lake Champlain Basin Program and helping to protect the water of the lake for generations to come. Susan Evans McClure will discuss the founding\, the impact\, and the legacy of this watershed legislation on our watershed. \nSusan Evans McClure is the executive director of the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum. \nThe Winter Wednesdays series is a partnership project of the Worthen Library and South Hero Land Trust. Funding made possible by members and donors of each organization. All events are free. All are welcome. Please email worthenlibrary@gmail.com if you have any questions or concerns about accessing online content.
