Powerful Turbines

Powerful Turbines (97 KB)Water power was key to the success of nineteenth century industry in Essex County, New York. Three turbines from a sawmill in Lewis have been moved to an exhibit on the front lawn of the Adirondack History Center Museum in Elizabethtown. An interpretive exhibit describes the Jonval type turbines, a later reaction turbine and an experimental wheel. These turbines are examples of innovation in turbine design and rapid changes in waterpower technology.
