Champlain-Richelieu Plan of Study to be presented to IJC

ijc-header-logoThe IJC Lake Champlain-Richelieu River flood mitigation workgroup held public meetings on March 11-12th in Burlington, VT, Plattsburgh, NY and Saint Jean sur Richelieu, Quebec. The workgroup had revised the plan to include three basic options for flood mitigation ranging from a $4 million, 3 year study that relies primarily on existing information, to a $14 million, 5 year study that thoroughly researches all possible mitigation measures. The plan also calls for the immediate formation of a flood response working group and a public interest advisory group. Following the public meetings, the workgroup revised the plan to reflect feedback received, and submitted it to IJC commissioners on April 2nd. The workgroup will formally present the plan for approval in Washington, D.C. on April 17th. If approved, the governments of each jurisdiction will then review the options presented in the plan and determine the best strategy for flood mitigation.
