 Engaging Young Scientists! Water Quality and Blue-green Algae Monitoring Workshop for Teachers

Grand Isle, VT – The Champlain Basin Education Initiative (CBEI) will host a professional development workshop for Vermont, New York and Quebec educators on Friday March 21, 2014 in Burlington, Vermont from 1:00-4:30 p.m.. CBEI will focus on stream water quality and lake blue-green algae monitoring initiatives in which teachers and students can participate.  Speakers will include Amy Picotte, Vermont Agency of Natural Resources, Erin De Vries, UVM Watershed Alliance – Lake Champlain Sea Grant, Brian Slopey, U32 High School, Lindsay Wieland, Vermont EPSCoR, Mike Winslow, Lake Champlain Committee and Colleen Hickey, Lake Champlain Basin Program. The fee for Engaging Young Scientists! is $10 and pre-registration is required by March 18th.

The Champlain Basin Education Initiative has provided professional development opportunities for more than 450 educators since 1991. CBEI partners include: the Lake Champlain Basin Program, Shelburne Farms, VT Department of Environmental Conservation, UVM Watershed Alliance – Lake Champlain Sea Grant, Our Curriculum Matters, Lake Champlain Committee, ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center at the Leahy Center for Lake Champlain and several New York and Quebec partners.
