News Release: VT CAC to Host Information Sessions on the 2018 State of the Lake and Ecosystem Indicators Report for Lake Champlain

Join the Vermont Citizens Advisory Committee, the Lake Champlain Basin Program, and partners to learn about the 2018 State of the Lake and Ecosystem Indicators Report for Lake Champlain. There will also be a forum to provide input on the Lake Champlain Basin Program budget priorities and the Vermont Citizens Advisory Committee’s 2019 Lake Champlain Action Plan.

The State of the Lake report, produced by the Lake Champlain Basin Program every three years, provides an assessment of the condition of Lake Champlain, outlines threats to the lake’s health, and presents opportunities to meet the challenges ahead.

“The informational sessions are a great way for citizens to learn more about critical lake issues and weigh in on funding and action priorities”, stated Lori Fisher, VT CAC Chair.

“We look forward to the opportunity to discuss with the public the challenges faced by the Lake and opportunities to protect and restore it,” said Eric Howe, Director of the Lake Champlain Basin Program.

The Vermont Citizens Advisory Committee is comprised of 14 Vermont citizens and legislators appointed by the Governor and makes recommendations to the Vermont Legislature on the management of Lake Champlain through its annual Action Plan, and advises the Lake Champlain Basin Program as one of the three state and provincial citizens advisory committees represented on its Steering Committee.

The Lake Champlain Basin Program coordinates and funds efforts that benefit the Lake Champlain Basin’s water quality, fisheries, wetlands, wildlife, recreation, and cultural resources. The program works in partnership with federal agencies, state and provincial agencies from New York, Vermont, and Québec, local communities, businesses, and citizen groups. These partners have led a collaborative, non-partisan effort to address water quality and environmental challenges that cross political boundaries.
