Bolton Valley

Our ninth Place in the Basin is the top of Bolton Valley’s Vista Quad lift! Bolton Valley is the only west-facing ski area in Vermont that offers views of Lake Champlain and New York’s Adirondack Mountains from the summit.

The ski area lies between Bolton Mountain to the north and Woodward Mountain to the south. A variety of backcountry ski trails crisscross these mountains, allowing adventurous skiers to traverse north and south, and from the west to the east face of the range.

Just north of the Bolton Mountain summit is the southern boundary of the Lamoille River watershed. Bolton Valley ski area falls squarely within the Winooski River watershed. That means that when the snow melts at Bolton, the water that doesn’t seep into the ground and get taken up by tree roots makes its way into larger and larger streams, ultimately flowing into the Winooski River, which drains into Lake Champlain.

Water, in all its forms, is fundamental to recreation in all seasons!
